I’ll be over in the secret base

Aloha from chilly Southwestern Pennsylvania! Here’s an update from the Secret Base…Read on… Most of my “blogging” these days is done over at http://patreon.com/comics (SECRET BLOG!) for patrons only. Not only do I post work in progress art for our  God Child book (pencils/inks, etc) but also Hero By Night, and now I’m going to be posting some fun pinup style art there as well. I also blog about thoughts or plans or just general life stuff from time to time.  I just posted a new Spider-Man pinup there this morning (pencils & inks). As of this posting there are only 6 patrons inside, so it’s a super exclusive little club. Lol. I’m not really pushing this hard anywhere because it’s generally just for fun and I don’t want to make big promises. I think of it like you’re coming over to my home studio and seeing what I’m up to what I’m thinking. I’m seriously debating putting any new Hero By night behind that wall exclusively. For now my main main focus in comics is finishing the God Child graphic novel for Caliber. So if I’m MIA from social media or blogs, that’s why. I’m into the third quarter now, so it’s trucking along. My typical Monday – Friday is working my main job all through the day where I get to draw and design so many different styles of art for different brands and personalities, and in the evening I come home and spend quality time with Ally, dinner and whatnot, then I travel down to the secret lair and start working on GodChild until midnight or...

My Desktop 10/30/14

It’s early. Ally has packed up her munchkins and headed off to work. Today I don’t have to be in to my day job until 10am, although I usually go in early because I love my job and the folks there. But this morning I have some sketching to do for a spell. We are between chapters for the next week on God Child, so I use the time to try to learn something new, whether it’s a photoshop setting or feature, or brushing up on the actual craft of drawing. Like most comic artists I’ve had a lot of aspiring creators ask me “What tools do you use?” so I thought I’d share a photo of my desktop (while it’s clear of clutter!) and what I’m currently using.     Left to right: Moleskine sketchbook, for gathering thoughts and sketching. It’s almost the only “tradional” drawing on paper that I do these days. iMac 27″: My main computer and workhorse. This model has been highly reliable since 2009 when I switched from PC. No more viruses or junk gumming up things! Microsoft Surface Pro+bluetooth keyboard: Primarily used as a digital sketchbook. I really love this little thing. I also have it synced up with creative cloud so I can ink on the couch or on the move. Prismacolor Markers: Ye’ old PrismaColor sets. I don’t use them much, but they make artist’s desks look like and artist must work there. Lol. Seriously though, they are still my favorite for coloring commissions and art cards. Cintiq 21UX: This has been my main drawing tool since 2006. A true workhorse....

Steel City Cupcakes Logo

Here’s a logo I designed for “Steel City Cupcakes” – It’s a business coming soon, co-owned and baked by none other than Betty Bonecrusher of the Steel City Derby Demons. Word on the street is I now get free cupcakes for life!...
