Sketch: Mr. President

This morning’s sketch is just what’s on my mind. I don’t think I’ve ever drawn a politician before that I wasn’t mocking in some way in a cartoon or something. But, yes, Obama is my guy in this upcoming election. Warning, more political gabbing after the jump if you dare to read those types of things…
Now, before my Republican friends stop visiting here or trash me for being a tree hugging liberal- hear me out, because it’s not so. I don’t follow any party lines. I guess you could consider me an independent. I’m conservative on some issues (money, size of government) , but pretty liberal on others (freedom of choice of all kinds!) . Of course I lean way more libera I suppose, but i digress.
I dislike religion being infused into politics. I hate it. I hate hearing that a bunch of bible thumping morons who believe in some fantasy fairy tale came out to vote for a guy like Huckabee just because he knows their Santa Claus. But here’s the thing… I like Huckabee too! He reminds me of very smart folks that I’ve debated about religion over many cups of coffee in lowlit areas around the country. He’s smart the way he speaks about “belief” and faith, and I can actually respect his beliefs because he’s not trying to force them down anyone’s throat. I don’t think he’d take his religious views to hijack the government and go on new crusades in the middle east… but alas, Huckabee, even though I like him, he’s just not very presidential or worldly. When asked about news that had been out for days about Iran’s nuclear plans, he didn’t even know or had heard of the reports because he had been campaigning– but he totally was able to comment on Britney Spears sister being pregnant. Thumbs down. — And as intelligent as that may have sounded, if Huckabee chose Chuck Norris as his VP, I might be compelled to vote for him! hahahhaha…. just for hilarity.
So Obama is my guy, not because he’s a democrat or would be good for our country, but I’m worried about the WORLD. Thanks to the internet, I have friends around the globe, and I get to hear first hand how a lot of people in other countries see the United States as sort of this clumsy super powet… diabolically nitwitted. Obama sends a message of change from the people. The only candidate running who was never for the war. He’s been consistent on his message about “change” and people scoffed at him saying his inexperience, and he surprised a lot of people in Iowa last night. So much so, that you immediately saw his rivals come out with a spin on his own message of change. Only you had the Clintons, giving their third place victory speech (ha!) and suddenly they were talking about change, but surrounded by people from their old guard. That’s not CHANGE! I swear sometimes it feels like they have the new rent fees for the Lincoln bedroom all figured out and booked up for their win. UGH.
“Change” to me, is about putting someone new in. Change is about more than just what the US does inside our borders. They called the USA a “super power”, but if America is Superman, it’s like Superman has been a dick for the past 8 years. We need to do right for the people, and when we see genocide going on, not sit around and wait for George Clooney and his dad to go film a documentary about it.
Either way, we’re in a NEW interesting time in American politics. We could be witnessing some big history here, times we’ll never forget.

See, while I can respect Huckabee for at least taking a stand on an issue and sticking with it (bigot or not), he IS going to attempt to force his beliefs down our throats and he does allow his faith to guide him far too strongly in important matters where reason and simple common sense should rule. Try looking at his efforts to turn Arkansas into a behavior-regulating nanny state and examine the reforms he hopes to bring nation-wide should he be elected (near-total ban on smoking, anyone?)
The man is a nutjob, not too far from the religious zealot tree as Ahmadinejad and has just as many skeletons in his corrupt political closet as the rest of the field.
As a lifelong Arkansas resident I would sooner see a windbag like Romney or Hillary (speaking of ruining Arkansas…) take the highest seat in the land than have Huckabee spread his brand of fundamentalism from the White House.
I’ll take your word for it then. I mean, he seems likeable though, or entertaining. At least more likeable than what we have now. Hah!
I read today that Huckabee was instrumental in freeing a rapist who went on to rape and kill again - despite being told that, if freed, the man would commit crime again: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2007/12/04/documents-expose-huckabee_n_75362.html
Do you want this man with his finger on the button?
Yeah– I heard about that. But if we’re playing tit-for-tat like that, look at all the horrible mistakes our president has made. I wonder how many enemies America has created by going to war against shadows?
Again, I don’t think Huckabee is presidential material for those very reasons. But I can’t say that doesn’t make him not likeable. I mean, friendly, or nice guy. Not, lead the free world or anything.
I have to say that I haven’t really heard him speak so I can’t speak to that, but if he doesn’t win he should have a good job ahead of him being a talking head on the TV
[...] had takenĀ the little sketchcard I drew back on January 4th, see here, thinking it was a longshot to have it signed, or that I’d even get anywhere near to the man, [...]
